A New Standard for Clean

The world we are living in today is not the same we were living in five months ago. Before the world started social distancing, the home remodeling industry was intrusive to people’s homes.

The main perpetrators of this intrusion? Dust and unknown contaminants. While the good home remodelers have begun working towards protecting people’s homes from these invaders, it needs to be a standard across the board. Unfortunately, this has not changed. Some people, both contractors and workers alike, will think this standard is not necessary and should therefore be left up to you, the homeowner. Do you believe that protecting your home should be standard practice? We at Fine Point Homes don’t. In fact, we believe that it’s a basic requirement of a job well done and should be at the forefront of the changes we make as we enter a COVID-19 construction world.

As a homeowner, you should be looking for a remodeling specialist that will advocate the protection of your home during this process. However, what exactly is reasonable? What fits this idea of a new “standard?”

Below, we’ve outlined five ideas that should be part of the standard you expect when it comes to protecting a home during the remodel process. Be sure to ask about these before starting with any contractor or remodeler, and keep an eye out for them throughout the process.

  1. Site Protection:

    1. How your home remodeling specialist thinks through this process will tell you how much they care about you and your home.

      1. During home remodeling it is inevitable that things will get damaged and messes will be made. The goal is that the home is as protected from all these things as much as possible.

    2. What to look for and ask about:

      1. Temporary walls made out of durable plastic.

      2. Spill proof flooring.

      3. High traffic corner protection.

      4. HVAC protection

  2. Air Filtration:

    1. Air filtration should be a priority during the remodeling process.

      1. The air you breathe in your home is vital to your health. You spend, on average, more than half your day in your home. You should want that air to be clean.

    2. What to look for and ask about:

      1. Do you use air filtration systems during the remodeling process?

      2. Are you striving towards negative air pressure?

        1. This means that the air in the room is forced out of a sealed room to make the air pressure less than the outside, resulting in the “pushing out” of all the unwanted contaminants.

  3. Hand washing stations":

    1. As we know hand washing is the best way to prevent virus’ and bacteria from spreading.

    2. Having a designated station for workers to be able to was their hands regularly through out the day.

  4. Workers cleaning up at the end of each day:

    1. The home remodeling specialist should always treat the space as if the homeowner is going to see it each day. This is especially important if the homeowner is living in the house through the remodel. Simply, it boils down to respect. Do the workers respect your space?

  5. Cleaning at the end of the process:

    1. Cleaning at the end of the process is a crucial part of customer service. If it is not done it would be like buying a brand new car that was recently driven through mud.
